Agrobacterium tumefaciens has been shown to oxidize Sb(III) to Sb(V). Initial steps in the characterization of genes involved in this oxidation are presented in this study. A. tumefaciens mutants were created through transposon mutagenesis and these mutants were screened with regards to their antimony tolerance. The growth rates and Sb(III) oxidation rates of selected mutants are compared to the wild type.
