Synthetic organic chemistry is rapidly evolving beyond its traditional role in the biological and pharmaceutical sciences to play an important part in the development of novel materials for electronics applications including photovoltaics and field effect transistors. We present the development of a living alkyne ring opening metathesis polymerization, and the design and synthesis of oligomeric model systems for the conjucated polymers that could be produced by this methodology.
