De novo protein design is increasingly being used both to provide insight on known biological systems and to develop new chemistry that is bioinspired. This presentation will describe the preparation, structural and spectroscopic characterization, and reactivity of designed peptides that bind Zn(II) and Cu(I)/Cu(II). Specific reactions that will be discussed include ester hydrolysis, CO2 hydration and nitrite reduction.
