Direct formic acid fuel cells (DFAFCs) MEAs werefabricated by using Pt black and Pt/C as cathode catalysts, with various amountof Nafion ionomer. The effect of ionomer content on oxygen reduction reaction (ORR)activities was examined by single cell test, and the MEAs wereelectrochemically characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemicalimpedance spectroscopy (EIS). Especially the ionic resistances of cathodelayers were measured by the complex capacitance analysis of experimentalimpedance data. The influence of charge transfer reaction on Pt and masstransport of proton and oxygen in the catalyst layers (CL) were discussed for theDFAFC MEAs based on Pt black and Pt/C catalysts.
