The catalysts were prepared using Zn (NO3)2, Ga (NO3)3 as metal precursors and urea, glycine, hexamine, pyridine as N-precursor with the molar ratio 1:2:2 via solid state mechanistic way at an activation temperature of 500 oC. The catalysts were successfully characterized by various techniques like PXRD, XPS, SEM, DRUV-vis, PL studies, N2 adsorption desorption studies etc. PXRD pattern confirms spinel form of mixed oxide. Successful N-doping was evidenced from XPS. N-doped semiconductors are having hierarchical surface morphology which is confirmed from SEM micrographs. From the optical absorption spectra, N-doped GaZn-mixed oxide shows red shift in absorption maxima i.e. blue shift in band gap energy from 4.1 to 2.6 eV. Highest performance was obtained when glycine was used as N- source and the photocatalyst is capable of producing 2232.1  mmol of H2 in 180 min under Visible light-illumination with apparent quantum efficiency 5.1%.
