Since the discovery of Kr�tschmer-Huffman method of fullerene production, much progress has been made in the chemical elaboration of fullerene cages.1 Such elaboration allows one to augment the physicochemical properties of fullerenes; e.g., use of cyclo-derivatives (PCBM) led to an increase in efficiency of the bulk heterojunction solar cells.2 In 2007, our group reported that addition pattern largely defines electrochemical properties of derivatives.3 The tunability of perfluoroalkylated fullerenes combined with their stability make them enticing for the future generation acceptor materials. We describe a novel technique for the preparation of several unique perfluoroalkylated fullerene derivatives.
