The new primary phosphines, 3-phosphino-2-naphthol and 2, 6-diphosphino-1, 5-naphthylenediol were synthesized. These materials display greater air stability than typical primary phosphines. Reaction with benzimidoyl chlorides led to the formation of new phosphorus-containing conjugated materials. Specifically, fluorescent naphthoxaphospholes (NOPs) and naphthobisoxaphospholes (NBOPs) were synthesized.  Structural, NMR, and optical data of the new compounds will be presented.
