Multidentate ligands have received considerable attention due to their ability to tailor the steric and electronic properties of a metal center.  Furthermore, the structural modifications associated with different kapticities provides a means to influence reaction pathways.  The research presented will focus on recent applications of various tridentate and tetradentate tripodal ligands, as illustrated by the tris(3-t-butyl-5-methylpyrazolyl)hydroborato, tris(2-pyridylthio)methyl and tris(1-methyl-imidazol-2-ylthio)methyl ligands, to the organometallic and bioinorganic chemistry of zinc.
