Hydrometallurgy has to adapt itself to rather complex matrices due to depletion of primary raw materials, and nowadays rare metals (e.g., platinum-group metals, PGMs) play undoubtedly a key-role. Processes for the treatment of solutions coming from the recycling of PGMs-containing materials are deeply justified. Sulfide-containing monoamides, thiodiglycolamides, and malonamide derivatives have been extensively investigated for PGMs solvent extraction (SX).In this presentation, data involving amide-type extractants for PGMs SX from chloride solutions is reviewed. Additionally, investigation on some new malonamide and thiodiglycolamide derivatives, to mainly recover and separate platinum and palladium, is described. In this up to date research, the evaluation of the obtained extractive profiles as HCl concentrations vary is complemented with preliminary information on the extractants selectivity, the metals stripping and their resistance upon successive cycles of extraction-stripping. The ultimate design of SX schemes to selectively recover and mutually separate PGMs from complex chloride leaches are envisaged.
