Under partial charge discharge cycling conditions at a state of charge of 50-70 %, a greater effect on the suppression of the memory effect, which occurs in rechargeable alkaline batteries containing a nickel electrode, was observed using nano-sized Co(OH)2 powders in the nickel electrode. They consisted of approximately 15-60 nm spherical particles. Ni-Cd cells containing approximately 15-18 nm-sized Co(OH)2 powder in the nickel electrode did not show any memory effect after a 150-cycle partial charge-discharge cycling test. ?-NiOOH, which was the origin of the memory effect1), was not detected in the nickel electrode. However, the cells containing the same content of 500 nm Co(OH)2 powders in the nickel electrode exhibited the memory effect. The nano-sized Co(OH)2 could be more homogeneously dispersed in the nickel electrode as compared to the 500 nm powders.Reference1)    Y. Sato, K. Ito, T. Arakawa and K.
