Recently, metal-organic materials (MOMs) that incorporate porphyrins have attracted attention1, not only because these materials can perform heterogeneous catalysis, but also because such materials can retain permanent porosity and can be subjected to post synthetic modification (PSM). Based on computational and experimental studies, PSM by over-exchange with metal ions can be expected to dramatically alter properties such as H2 uptake and CO2 capture.2  In this contribution, we describe a new approach to PSM in which unsaturated metal ions are coordinated to the walls of porphyrin encapsulated metal-organic materials (porph@MOMs).
