Carbon nanotubes are material with promising properties (charge  mobility, electrical conductivity, etc). However, their use is limited  by their poor solubility in common organic solvents. The main objective  of our research project is to obtain soluble and covalently link  architectures that possess the same properties as carbon nanotube.  Octadehyrobenzoannulene (DBA) represents an interesting building block  for that purpose because of their ability to form long supramolecular  assemblies, their rigidy and their extensive p-delocalization.   Synthesis of DBA bearing strong H-bounding group as amide has been  carried out in order to obtain stable organogels. In order to covalently  link the molecules to each others, aliphatic chains bearing  1,3-butadiyne has been inserted in the backbone for further topochemical  photopolymerization by UV irradiation. Complete characterization of the  organogels before and after irradiation has been performed using  UV-Visible, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy and electron microscopy.
