Fluid catalytic cracking(FCC) process is a pivotal one in modern Japanese refineries to convert heavier hydrocarbon feedstocks such as vacuum gas oil (VGO) into FCC gasoline, which is a main component of a regular gasolineFCC catalyst is consisted of zeolite, matrix components such as clay, and binder. Zeolite is a main active element in FCC catalyst. Binder is added to bind the raw materials, such as zeolite and matrix components, of FCC catalyst and to make FCC catalyst sphere.The amount of heavy metal, such as Ni or V, gets higher with increase in density of crude oils refined in Japan.  V is known for depression of cracking activity in FCC catalyst by the collapse of crystalline zeolite structure. So we examined to improve cracking activity of FCC catalyst by controlling matrix components. There are two ways of the catalytic activity enhancement: inhibition of the zeolite structure collapse by vanadium and to improve the zeolite structure stability. It is well known that Al2O3 passivates vanadium and P2O5 enhances zeolite structure stability. We have tried the new matrix component containing Al2O5 and P2O5 which have never used in FCC catalyst component. This paper describes the effect of new matrix component and the factor of cracking activity enhancement.
