Early in 2006, Chemical & Engineering News published an article titled �Silent Chemistry�.  The article discussed obstacles for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students who intend to become working professionals in the chemical sciences, programs for this population of students, and strategies for educating/training Deaf and hard-of-hearing chemistry students.  This informative article was published at about the mid-point of my still progressing career.  This presentation will review the state of deaf education in chemistry on the eve of the first day of my career, through the publication of �Silent Chemistry�, updated to the current �state-of-the-art�, and with an eye toward the future.  It appears that progress is still being made and Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals are entering the chemical science workforce in greater numbers today- a trend that will hopefully continue.
