The core curriculum for chemistry majors has been carved in stone for over a century.  At the undergraduate level, chemical safety is controlled for the student, but rarely are students taught the reasons behind safe work practices.  Graduate programs often swing in opposite direction allowing graduate students open access to the laboratory with little guidance or supervision.  At both levels chemistry educators are doing a great disservice to the student by sending them wrong message regarding safety.In this presentation, we will discuss the introducing risk-management and inherently safe design principles into the chemistry curriculum.
