The public perception that scientists are trustworthy is perhaps most apparent in the media.  Actors wearing lab coats help sell products from weight loss drugs to exercise equipment and the phrase �scientific research� is used to lend credibility to any number of goods.  Unfortunately, while the public considers scientists to be beacons of truth, it is not commonplace for undergraduate science students to be taught responsible research conduct as part of their curriculum.  New scientists entering the workforce at the bachelor's degree level are often unaware of the history, basic practices, and regulations surrounding responsible research.  The undergraduate biochemistry courses provide an ideal platform for introducing these topics.  Issues ranging from basic research ethics to historical bioethics, modern bioethics, and ethical experimental design can be presented here to a broad range of students in the biological and chemical sciences in a context that is relevant to the course material.
