Catalysts for the metathesis of carbon-element multiple bonds undergo deactivation in various ways, among which are ligand migration and disproportionation. The syntheses of some candidate catalysts that contain simple chelating ligands are illustrated. The effects of these chelating ligands on stoichiometric and catalytic reactions of the resulting complexes are described.
