This study was focused on the preparation of modified bismuth oxide photocatalysts using sonochemically and photodeposition assisted method to enhance their photocatalytic activity. The crystalline phase composition and surface structure of Bi2O3 photocatalysts were examined using, TEM, XRD, and XPS. The photocatalytic performance of the Bi2O3 composites was evaluated with the addition of sacrificial reagent, such as oxalic acid, in the reactant solution. According to the experimental results, visible-light-driven photocatalysis for water splitting with the addition of H2C2O4 shows that Cr2O3/Pt/RuO2:Bi2O3 catalyst could effectively increase the amount of hydrogen evolution, which is around 17.2 �mol g-1 h-1. A plausible formation mechanisms of modified bismuth oxide and reaction mechanisms of photocatalytic water splitting mechanisms have been proposed.
