Poly(glycerol-succinic acid) dithiocarbamate and 1,3,4-thiadiazole dendrimers, which are potential environmentally friendly oil additives were synthesized. The structures were confirmed by using Mass(MALDI-TOF) spectrometry. Their anti-wear property as additives in three different oil systems (100N, DB-51 and Soybean) were evaluated using a four-ball wear tester. The results show that thiocarbamate dendrimers have good anti-wear property in DB-51 oil and 1,3,4-thiadiazole dendrimers express excellent anti-wear property in 100N and DB-51 oils. It also indicates that dithiocarbamate and 1,3,4-thiadiazole dendrimers could not be the effective additives in Soybean oil for anti-wear property. To evaluate the effect of ester-core, the correlation between numbers of functional groups and anti-wear property was investigated.
