Aniline derivatives were reacted with trifluoroacetic anhydride, TFAA, in hexanes or heptane. Reactions were carried out at room temperature in excellent yields when neutral, activated, or weakly deactivated anilines were used.  Trifluoroacetylation of 4-nitroaniline was possible in high yield in heptane at 90 �C. All reactions were complete in short reaction times using only 1.1 equivalents of TFAA. The reported method was successfully employed in the multi-gram synthesis of 2,5-dimethyl aniline   and p-anisidine.
