In this communication, a survey of the complexing strategies between nanoparticles and oppositely charged polyelectrolytes developed during the last years and based on electrostatic interactions is presented. These strategies include the synthesis of stable and functionalized nanoparticles, the multilayer coating of individual nano-objects, the controlled clustering of particles and the generation of capsules and films [1]. Using nanoparticles and polymers of opposite charges, we performed systematic Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC) experiments to identify the thermodynamics of association. The general endothermic character of the electrostatic reactions, together with repetitive stoichiometry transitions observed by titration were disclosed [2]. These results were correlated with the structural changes occurring in the bulk. Developments on electrostatic assemblies dedicated to applications in nanomedicine will be also highlighted [3].[1] Chapel et al.
