With the arisen of the �green chemistry�, solid-phase microextraction (SPME) has been opted to be used as the technique of preference for the analysis of volatiles compounds.  SPME technique reduce (or eliminate) the use of toxic solvents, avoiding injection of relatively large amounts of solvents into the gas chromagraph (GC).  Also, it saves energy consumption during the analytical procedure by combining the sample preparation and the analysis in one step.  With the comparison of standard volatile compounds analysis by using the techniques of GC, GC/MS (gas chromatography/mass spectrometry) and SPME, it can be selected which technique is more viable in these analyses.  Trying different SPME fibers and GC columns have been part of the research project in order to find the best method.
