Chromatographic analysis of drugs from environmental samples requires sample preparation, which is time consuming. Conventional solid-phase extraction (SPE) methods require multiple steps due to the need for conditioning and wash steps. Recently, disposable pipette extraction (DPX) has been found to be a rapid SPE method because it does not require conditioning steps. The sorbent is loosely contained inside the pipette tip, and sample solutions are mixed with the sorbent to provide efficient extractions without concerns of channeling or solution flow rates.This study focused on the investigation of the DPX method using reversed phase, weak anion exchange, and mixed-mode mechanisms to extract drugs from water samples. Methods efficiency was determined by GC/MS and HPLC/UV.Recoveries and %RSDs for target drugs in waste and surface water are greater than 70% and less than 10%, respectively. Validation studies included at least 10 replicates for each drug, accuracy, precision, and calibration plots.
