The plant cell wall is the major contributor of the world's biomass. Some of the main components are complex polysaccharides such as pectin. An improved understanding of these complex molecules is crucial to areas such as biofuels, biomedicin and nutrition. A series of linear �-(1?3)-linked, linear �-(1?4)-linked and �-(1?6)-branched galactans have been prepared via a simple convergent strategy. Immobilization on microarrays has allowed high throughput antibody screening.
