This project seeks to develop and disseminate a series of interactive web-based digital learning objects to help first year undergraduate chemistry students visualize and understand the chemistry underlying global climate change. Developed in response to documented misconceptions, the interactive digital learning objects will help to fill a systemic hole identified by urgent calls for climate science literacy. Recognizing that interdisciplinary understanding of complex systems is fundamental to understanding modern science, these digital learning objects will also provide 'best-practice' resources to support chemistry instructors in adopting active-learning pedagogies that situate cognition in authentic science practice and globally important contexts. To facilitate implementation we have developed a website with an interactive map relating the 7 principles of climate science developed by AAAS and NOAA, core general chemistry content, and the location of this content in six highly used general chemistry textbooks.  We will share progress in developing and implementing these tools in the 2011-2012 school year.  In addition changes in student understanding climate change and core chemistry concepts taught through climate change science will be presented.
