The photolysis of 4n-nonylphenol and triclosan was investigated using a solar simulator at different pH, concentrations of Fe(III) and absence/presence of Humics Acids (HAs). The conditions were chosen to simulate a natural aquatic environment. The experimental variables were optimized using a factorial design for three factors with eight combinations for each compound. For TCS, the results indicate that the oxidation rate increases with the presence of Fe(III) and at basic pH, but it decreased with presence HAs. In the case of 4n-NP, synergistic effect was observed for presence of Fe(III) and HAs. Experiments performed in both natural and pure water showed that the degradation of 4n-np was faster than TCS and the first order reaction kinetics could be well used to describe the degradation for both compounds. The degradation rates revealed that the behavior of these compounds depends of the conditions of aquatic environment as well as the need of study and monitoring the transformation Products (TPs) of these compounds in environment as these to could also risk for human health.
