Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) fabricated inexpensively from environmentally friendly materials are among the most promising photovoltaic devices. The conversion efficiency is still needed further improvement to compete with inorganic silicon solar cells. The open-circuit voltage (VOC) and short-circuit photocurrent (JSC) are critical parameters determining the conversion efficiency of a DSC. VOC is determined by potential difference between the quasi-Fermi level (QFL) of TiO2 film and the redox couple in the electrolyte. JSC is also affected by position of the QFL of TiO2 film through influencing the dynamics of charge injection and recombination processes. Therefore, the QFL of TiO2 film plays a very important role for the performance of a cell. In the other hand, the QFL of TiO2 films are sensitive to the contacted electrolyte in DSCs. To investigate additives effect on the QFL, a three-electrode DSC was employed to measure the QFL shifts affected by additives in the electrolyte.
