In this research, we report the design and synthesis of photoresponsive bridged polysilsesquioxane (BPS) nanoparticles and its function of UV-triggered charge reversal. We have also accomplished light-triggered nanoparticle self-assembly, nanocomposite hydrogel formation and nanoparticle release based on the charge reversal of the BPS nanoparticles. Our strategy and materials have been shown to be widely compatible with organic or inorganic, soft or rigid nanoparticles, as well as linear polymers. This research reveals a novel strategy for nano-scale manipulation with good potential in applications such as controlled formation of nanostructured material and nanocomposites, as well as release of polymer and nanoparticle drugs.
