In this work, we explore exciton photoluminescence (PL) blinking and biexciton PL efficiency of single semiconductor nanocrystals using confocal spectroscopy and time correlated single photon counting technique.  More specifically, we investigate the relationship between the blinking �on� fraction and biexciton quantum yield of single CdSe(CdS) nanocrystals.  We observe a weak correlation between them that cannot be explained by the widely accepted Auger mechanism alone. A model that involves both trapping and Auger mechanism is proposed to explain the experimental observations. Furthermore, the biexciton quantum yields of single NCs are measured at different excitation wavelengths and the change in the biexciton quantum yield is consistent with the proposed model.
