This work examines the ionic addition of thiols to an array of acetylene compounds.  The additions of simple thiols to mono- and disubstituted acetylene compounds are controlled by several factors, including ratios of thiol to acetylene, type of catalyst used, temperature, time of reaction, and type of solvent used.  The goal of this work is the application of ionic thiol-alkyne addition for the synthesis of dendrimers and other functional branched molecules.
