Any cellulose solution forms gel on contact with nonsolvent. The cellulose gels are generally composed of interconnected microfibrils of cellulose II. While their nanoporous structures are important in many advanced applications, our knowledge about the impact of gelation conditions on the gel structure is limited. This paper addresses several basic features regarding the influences of solvent and coagulant type. Some examples will be shown regarding remarkable differences in ultrastructure generated by the solvent-coagulant combinations.
