Liquid chromatography/ mass spectrometry (LC/MS) is an analytical technique used for the separation and detection of compounds in complex mixtures.  LC/MS has the ability to detect analytes of varying chemical properties such as pesticides, proteins, and synthetic polymers.  As a result of this versatility, LC/MS is being integrated into Hood College's chemistry curriculum to build student knowledge of the technique. The incorporation of LC/MS experiments into physical chemistry, quantitative analysis, and instrumental analysis laboratories are described within this research. The physical chemistry experiment will allow students to analyze amino acid affinities for silver ions using LC/MS/MS. The experiment for quantitative analysis will have students confirm the absence or presence of Bisphenol-A in plastic samples, based on molecular weight, through MS detection.   Finally, the instrumental analysis experiment will introduce MS/MS in-source collision (CID) for the analysis of herbicides.
