Plants of the genus Aloe have been found to be biologically active in non-traditional medicine. With the rise of resistant strains of fungi, the demand for safe and effective antifungal drugs is now elevated. Several compounds have been isolated from the leaf gel of Aloe cameronii that inhibit one of the virulence factors of the opportunistic fungi Candida albicans. These compounds were successfully separated from the leaf gel through a combination of chromatographic methods, and several techniques have been utilized to identify their structures, including LC/MS, 1H and 13C NMR.  Isolation and identification of these compounds has important applications in the field of pharmacology and microbiology.
