Atomic absorption spectroscopy is used to determine the concentration of trace metals in several beers brewed in central Texas with emphasis on the brewing water. Water is the largest contributor to beer flavor and stability thus making it the most valuble ingredient in successful brewing. Ca, Co, Cu, Fe, Mg, Na, Ni, Pb, and Zn are determined in diluted, digested beer samples. These results are then compared to the metal concentration in the water used for the brewing of the corresponding beer.
