Vanadyl complexes are more effective as therapeutic agents compared to uncomplexed ligands or vanadyl ion alone. In the present study, complexation of  Bis(acetylacetonate)-oxovanadium(IV) with D-penicillamine  at three different pHs and  different temperatures have been investigated by spectroscopic method. Besides, synthesis of complexes have been followed at neutral and alkali pH. The results showed that the reaction of D-H2Pen and VO(acac)2 lead to the formation of three different complexes at three different pHs. At neutral pH, the product is a Schiff base complex (coordination mode is N2O2) , but in alkali pH, D-penicillamine is exchanged with acac- due to the ability of coordinating of D-H2Pen when it releases one or two protons  at  weak or strong alkali medium, the products are VO(HPen)2 (with N2O2 coordination mode via  amine nitrogen and carboxylate oxygen) and a vanadyl complex with (S2O2) coordination mode respectively.  Thermodynamic studies of described reactions at pH=7.00, 7.5 and 10 shows exothermic, endothermic and exothermic modality, respectively.
