As part of our continuing efforts in search for natural product-based agrochemicals, the leaves of A. texana were extracted and investigated for antifungal constituents. Bioautography of the ethyl acetate extract of the leaves showed the presence of antifungal constituents against Colletotrichum spp. Three oxazoles, including a novel oxazole, and two chromene amides were isolated and identified as antifungal constituents in the ethyl acetate extract by bioassay-guided fractionation, followed by NMR spectroscopic analysis. The structure of the novel oxazole wasestablished by NMR spectroscopic data followed by total synthesis. Isolation, structure elucidation, biological activity and total synthesis of these compounds will be discussed.
