Bimolecular reaction rate constants have been measured for the reaction of the hydroxyl radical (HO�) with a series of polyethylene glycols (1 � 35 kDa) as a model for this radicals' reaction with dissolved organic matter (DOM) in natural waters.  DOM is present in both natural and engineered systems, being involved in the photochemical production of HO� in natural systems and acting as a radical scavenger in engineered systems such as Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs).  Although reaction rate constants have been previously determined for the HO� reaction with DOM, there is still little understanding as to what physiochemical properties of DOM influence its reaction.  Insight into these reactions was obtained from the temperature-dependent kinetics that varied with the polymer's molecular weight.
