The advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have provided a promising method for the treatment of polluted groundwater and wastewater. The process usually involves the formation of the hydroxyl radical (�OH). In this study, an Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR)/spin trap technique was used to probe the hydroxyl radical (�OH) productivity using different types of reaction vessels and UV-light sources.  The use of UV-B/Pyrex-vessel system provides faster remediation of methyl-t-butyl ether (MTBE) and its by-products in model samples. Moreover, the study forwards a new mechanism for the homogenous dissociation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) that accounts for the irradiation influence of the UV-light source and the vessel glass materials.
