The potential applications, economics and efficiency of nanoparticles as sorbents are related to their ability to be regenerated. Equilibrium batch studies for nano TiO2 showed that Pb(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) desorption was pH dependent and partially reversible. Kinetic batch studies showed that within the first 15 mins most of the desorption occurred.    Also, effective methods for regeneration through both batch and column studies were conducted on spent nano TiO2 for Pb(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) removal. Methods applied included adjusting pH, addition of common ions and addition of a chelating agent. Initial adsorption of the metals was conducted at pH 8.0. Results shown more metal desorption at lower pH. After regeneration, re-adsorption experiments were conducted to determine efficiency and the sorbent lifetime was determined by repeating the regeneration and re-adsorption cycle multiple times. The successful regeneration of spent nano TiO2 could make these materials more cost-effective and a sustainable treatment option.
