Recent developments in Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSC) architecture have pushed efficiencies above 12%, making it one of the most efficient low-cost solar technologies.  At these high efficiencies, innovative approaches are typically needed to further increase performance, and we will discuss a few of such approaches.A single sensitizing dye in a DSC cannot typically harvest the entire solar spectrum. We will discuss new developments in using long range F�rster energy transfer (FRET)   to increase harvesting in DSCs, particularly aimed at at state-of-the-art DSCs.Solid State Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (ssDSCs) utilize a solid-state hole transporting material rather than a liquid electrolyte for the benefits of increased stability and open-circuit voltage.  Our recent research aimed at both increasing the pore filling fraction of HTMs and light trapping to directly improve light absorption will be presented.
