Gold mediates several important reactions involving small, unsaturated organic molecules like carbon monoxide, alkenes and alkynes.  However, easily isolable adducts featuring bonds between gold and such small organic molecules are not very common.  We have used highly fluorinated tris(pyrazolyl)borates and triazapentadineyl ligands for the stabilization of several such species.  Recently, we also managed to isolate tris(ethylene) adducts of gold using simple counter ions like SbF6-.  Structures, spectroscopic features, and bonding of these gold organometallics will be discussed.  Some of our efforts on the use of non-fluorinated nitrogen based ligands are also presented.
