A number of interesting issues arise if molecular deflection results  from the presence of inhomogeneous external fields, especially when the system involves dense sets of avoided crossings. The experiments of Pate on non-deflection of modest sized molecules in electric fields are a case in point.  The interpretation of such dense sets of Born-Oppenheimer avoided crossings in terms of deflection, molecular chaos, spectroscopy, and tunneling interactions will be discussed.  Limits ranging from the diabetic to the adiabatic limits can be accessed experimentally. Linking of the center of mass to delicate internal nonadiabatic interactions can be a window into intramolecular dynamics, and opens the possibility of active control scenarios.
