We have previously shown that organic solids, both crystalline and amorphous, are capable of hosting gaseous substances such as carbon dioxide, dihydrogen, methane, and nitrous oxide.  The interaction between host organic solid and gas may be quite strong.  Indeed, several organic solid have been studied for carbon capture and for gaseous fuel storage.  More recently, we have discovered that the interaction of gases with organic solids does not have to be passive. Several examples of the use of a gas pressure to effect the transformation of organic solids from one crystal form to another have been observed.In this discussion, the focus will be on the fundamentals of the interaction of gases with organic solids, with the goal of developing a range of organic solids as carbon capture media.
