The catalytic performances of metal nanocrystals (NCs) strongly depend on their composition and shapes. Alloyed Pt group metal nanoparticles with high-index facets may have high catalytic activity due to the synergy effect of high-index facets and electronic structure of alloying. Although high-index faceted Pt group metals nanocrystals (such as Pt, Au, and Pd) have been prepared, the synthesis of alloy metal nanocrystals with high-index facets has been little reported yet. In this presentation, we will show our recent progress in the shape-controlled preparation of alloyed Pt group metal nanoparticles with high-index facets and their high catalytic activity. Eg., alloy tetrahexahedral Pd0.90-Pt0.10 nanocatalysts show much higher catalytic activity than tetrahexahedral Pd nanocatalysts and commercial Pd black catalysts for the elctrooxidation of ethanol. The superior catalytic activity of alloy THH Pd-Pt NCs can be attributed to the synergy effect of high-index facets and electronic structure of alloying.
