The main object of this research is to develop novel biodegradable polyurethane with appropriate mechanical properties. The poly(lactic acid) diol (PLA-OH) was synthesized by direct condensation between (lactic acid)LA and ethylene glycol (EG). Polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMG), polybutylene adipate glycol (PBA), 4,4-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI), Toluene 2,4-diisocyanate (TDI), Trimethylolpropane (TMP) and 1,4-butanediol (1,4 BD) were used as chain extender agent and for the comparison. In order to prepare a biodegradable polyurethane. Encouraging results disclosed improved thermal stability and enhanced mechanical property. The result of recovery study demonstrated that the recoverability of PU could be controlled by changing the structure. After detailed evaluation of biocompatibility, toxicity and cost down of these polyurethanes, it is expected that they will find practical applications in engineering plastic, soft tissue engineering or drug delivery in near future.
