Polyisobutylene (PIB)-block-polyamide 11 (PA 11) multiblock copolymers were synthesized via an amidation reaction to make a thermoplastic elastomer.  A carboxylic acid-terminated polyamide 11 was converted to the acid chloride derivative to increase its reactivity.  Solubility tests were run to find a solvent system that would allow for the reaction between the nonpolar PIB soft block and the polar PA hard block. The acid chloride-terminated polyamide was reacted with a primary amine-terminated polyisobutylene (a,?-PIB-NH2) in a cosolvent system of 1:1 (v:v) benzyl alchohol:xylenes at 150 �C.  13C NMR was used to confirm the formation of the amide linkage between blocks.
