Graft- and hyperbranched copolymers based on functional poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) with molecular weights in the range of 2000-90 000 g/mol and narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn= 1.08-1.37) were successfully prepared via combination of anionic- and coordination-insertion ring-opening polymerization. Detailed characterization including SEC, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and DSC has been carried out. Depending on the macroinitiator, multiarm block copolymers with a varying number of side chains and degree of polymerization between 14 and 40 lactic acid units were obtained. Furthermore the stereocomplex formation with poly(D-lactide) of these hyperbranched and comb copolymers was studied. Stereocomplex formation was confirmed by DSC as well as by FT-IR and Raman spectroscopy.
