Steam-oxygen gasification using circulating fluidized bed (CFB) gasification technology is an attractive way to produce syngas for downstream processing to syngas in advanced BtL routes. Experimental research on a 100 kWth test rig situated at Delft University of Technology provided a large amount of new information. However, running a large number of experiments can be expensive. A suitable mathematical model can provide a much cheaper way of predicting the outcome of adjustment of a process or of its variables, and therefore reduce the amount of tests. This article describes further development of an existing steady-state model capable of simulating industrial-scale CFB coal combustors and boilers, extending it to biomass gasification, also performed at small pilot scale. A global description of model functionality is given, the newly implemented features are presented and finally simulation results are compared with experimental data, as well as with the simulation results of a commercial simulator.
