The generation of arylphosphonates is an important reaction due to the myriad of applications these compounds have in organic, medicinal, and agricultural chemistry.  The synthetic methodology for the preparation of arylphosphonates normally involves a base-assisted coupling reaction between an aryl halide and a hydrogen phosphonate using a palladium or copper complex as the catalyst. The development of a base-free procedure for this coupling reaction is of interest to the synthetic community due to the range of substrates that contain base-sensitive functional groups.  This presentation will highlight our recent efforts towards the design of such a reaction.
