XRF spectroscopy is an accepted and widely used method in �conventional� fuel analysis offers a wide range of performance levels and application ranges. The elemental range covered is from Na to U with linear calibrations allowing the quantification from weight % to ppm levels. Based on instrumentation design and technique (Energy dispersive ED or Wavelength dispersive) XRF can determine S as a single  element or perform multi-element analysis covering over 70 elements.  Limiting the applicability of existing ASTM XRF methods  is the extremely variable O content which needs to be taken into account but cannot be measured directly with XRF. The talk will cover the basic instrumentation and outline the challenges to analyze current Biofuel for more than just Sulfur.
